The bank’s strategic goal is to establish itself as a highly regarded European central bank with outstanding specialist knowledge in specific areas.
As a part of this strategic effort, the Research Department is further improving its academic output, intensifying its international academic and policy cooperation, and strengthening collaboration with other NBS business areas.
Economic and financial effects of climate change and policy actions to mitigate it, is a key medium-term priority of the Research Department and we would like to strengthen our in-house capacity in this area.
For this new position, we thus particularly welcome applications from applied economists and econometricians working on climate related topics, such as the impact of climate related risks and policies on the financial system and the real economy, including structural changes in industry and energy supply.
We invite applications from candidates with the following qualifications:
- PhD in economics or in a related field with a significant quantitative component
- Advanced econometric, data analysis or programming skills, and practical experience with common econometric and/or mathematical software (e.g. Stata, R, Python, Matlab or other)
- Deep knowledge of climate-related issues is a strong asset.
- Additional experience in applied economic analysis is welcome but not essential
- Ability to work on projects as part of an international team is an asset
- Excellent command of English; knowledge of Slovak is not a requirement
- EU citizenship is not a requirement
We also value if our employees have:
- Appropriate communication and presentation skills, including towards a non-specialist audience
- An innovative, creative, and proactive approach to solving problems
We offer:
- Excellent opportunities for personal development and networking as part of ESCB structures and through our academic network
- Further training and external engagement opportunities (seminars, conference visits) are funded by the bank
- An informal work environment, involving close contact with the top management and flexible home office arrangements
- Opportunities for beneficial societal impact
- Great quality of life in a mid-sized European city in the centre of Europe, very close to the globally well-connected airport in Vienna
- A competitive salary and a range of attractive benefits
The basic pay component of the remuneration is not going to be lower than 2,700 EUR gross monthly.
Experienced analysts may, depending on their performance, earn up to 50,000 EUR in gross terms annually including variable pay components.
We particularly welcome applications of female candidates.
