New NBS Governor Peter Kažimír assumes office

The new NBS Governor Peter Kažimír assumed office today, 1 June 2019.

Mr Kažimír previously served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Slovak Republic. He was nominated to head the central bank by the Slovak Government, and his nomination was approved by the Slovak Parliament on 6 December 2018. On 13 March 2019 Slovak President Andrej Kiska appointed him as Governor of Národná banka Slovenska with effect from 1 June 2019.

Mr Kažimír will be the fifth NBS Governor since the central bank was established in 1993, following Jozef Makúch (2010-2019), Ivan Šramko (2005-2010), Marián Jusko (1999-2004) and Vladimír Masár (1993-1999).

The term of office of the NBS Governor is set at six years.
