Statement from the NBS Bank Board’s 18th meeting of 2026

On 6 October 2026 the Bank Board of Národná banka Slovenska (NBS) held its 18th meeting of the year, chaired by NBS Governor Peter Kažimír.

The Bank Board approved the notification of the issuance of a €5 base metal collector coin under the title ‘Fauna and flora in Slovakia – the alpine marmot’.
The coin is made from MS63 brass (63% copper and 37% zinc), weighs 19.1 g, and has a diameter of 34 mm. Designed by Josef Oplištil and produced by the Kremnica Mint, the coin is due to go on sale in December 2026.

The Bank Board approved the notification of the issuance of a €2 commemorative coin marking the 50th anniversary of the publication of Charter 77.
The coin will have the same technical parameters as normal €2 coins and will be legal tender in Slovakia and the rest of the euro area. Its national side was designed by Karol Ličko.
Produced by the Kremnica Mint with a mintage of one million, the coin is due to be issued in January 2027.
