Statement from the 40th Meeting of the Bank Board of Národná banka Slovenska

The 40th Meeting of the Bank Board of Národná banka Slovenska was held today (6 December 2011) and was chaired by Jozef Makúch, the NBS Governor.

The Bank Board of NBS discussed and approved the Annual Budget of Národná banka Slovenska for 2012. The budget projects an operating loss of €56 million, and earmarks €12 million for investments and €7 million for currency issuance.

The Bank Board approved a project entitled “Upgrade of UNIVERZAL-Net”, which will ensure technological upgrading of UNIVERZAL-Net, a network used for data transfer between Národná banka Slovenska and banks or branches of foreign banks in Slovakia.

In accordance with Article 6(2)(d) of Act No 566/1992 Coll. on Národná banka Slovenska, as amended, the Bank Board approved the Decision of Národná banka Slovenska on the determination of the annual contributions of supervised financial market entities for 2012. The Decision will be published in the Journal of Národná banka Slovenska and on the bank’s website.

The Bank Board approved the NBS Decree on fee-related information provided to customers by banks or branches of foreign banks.

The new Decree replaces NBS Decree No 1/2006 of 13 June 2006 and incorporates changes resulting from the Act on Banks and the new Act on Payment Services, as well as experience gained during supervision of banks and branches of foreign banks.

The new Decree should improve transparency in the provision of information to customers about the price policy of banks and branches of foreign banks. It also provides for banks and branches of foreign banks to submit data to the Ministry of Finance and Národná banka Slovenska for the purposes of further processing and publication on the NBS website. This should strengthen the position and protection of bank customers in the financial market.

The Decree will enter into force on 31 December 2011.

Finally, the Bank Board discussed and approved the Plan of Main Tasks of NBS for the First Half of 2012.
