Statement from the NBS Bank Board's 11th meeting of 2017

The Bank Board of Národná banka Slovenska today (30 May) held its 11th meeting of 2017, chaired by Jozef Makúch, the NBS Governor.

The Bank Board approved NBS’s May 2017 Financial Stability Report, which will be published on the NBS website.

The Bank Board decided on the setting of capital buffer requirements for banks in Slovakia identified as other systemically important institutions (O-SIIs). Accordingly, the O-SII buffers (for increasing the resilience of O-SIIs) and systemic risk buffers (SRBs) applicable to these institutions will be set at the following levels:

The target levels of the combined O-SII buffer and SRB requirement are thus reduced by one percentage point compared with those set in the Decisions of 24 May 2016. The new Decisions setting the above capital buffer requirements and including further details enter into force on 1 January 2018.

The Bank Board took note of NBS’s May 2017 Monthly Bulletin, which will be published on the NBS website.

The Bank Board approved a Decree on risks, risk management and measurement systems, and the calculation of global exposure and counterparty risk in supplementary pension funds.

The Decree specifies and distinguishes risks other than those specified directly in primary legislation and lays down detailed provisions on risk management and measurement in supplementary pension funds, and on the calculation of global exposure related to derivatives and of counterparty risk arising from over-the-counter trading in derivatives. The Decree enters into force on 1 July 2017.

The Bank Board approved the announcement of the issuance of a €10 silver collector coin commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Božena Slančíková Timrava.

Designed by Asamat Baltaev and produced by the Kremnica Mint in Slovakia, the euro collector coin is made from an alloy of silver (90%) and copper (10%), weighs 18 g, and measures 34 mm in diameter. It is due to be issued in September 2017.
