100th anniversary of the birth of Eva Siracká
€10 silver collector coin
Eva Siracká (1 May 1926 – 21 February 2023) was a prominent Slovak physician who devoted her life to the fight against cancer. After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Bratislava, she worked at the St Elizabeth Cancer Institute and later at the Institute of Experimental Oncology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Engaged in clinical and scientific research, she was among the pioneers of oncological radiology and radiobiology in Slovakia. Through her dedication and involvement in oncology, she inspired her colleagues and supported patients throughout their treatments. In 1990 she founded the League Against Cancer, a charity that became a member of international organisations and continues to play a crucial role in patient support and cancer prevention. The ideas and practices she brought from abroad opened a new dimension of awareness and care for cancer patients in Slovakia and invigorated prevention efforts. Beyond her professional expertise, she was distinguished by her humanity, empathy, and commitment to serving society, remaining active even in her later years.
