NBS warns about misleading advertisements for alternative bank accounts

Národná banka Slovenska (NBS) warns the public that misleading advertisements which resemble newspaper articles and offer the opportunity ‘to get rich with alternative bank accounts’ are repeatedly appearing on the internet. They offer a way of increasing your money by anything between a hundred and thousand times within a few days. Such advertisements display many suspicious features indicative of fraud, and we therefore recommend the public not to respond to them.

Notable features of such advertisements include the following:

  • Offering rapid and large returns on investment.
  • Insisting on the urgency of the offer, using phrases such as ‘Only ten minutes left to register’, ‘Only seven positions left’, and so on.
  • Redirecting the visitor to websites of companies not subject to financial supervision (after clicking on a link in the advertisement).

Anyone considering investing with a company in Slovakia is recommended to check whether the company is authorised to provide financial services in Slovakia. A list of such authorised companies is available here.
