Aid to Ukraine

Everyone at the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), along with the rest of the world, has been shocked at the events unfolding in Ukraine as a result of the Russian invasion. People in Slovakia have shown tremendous solidarity with the Ukrainians tragically forced to leave their homes because of the war.

NBS employees have been actively involved in providing aid to Ukrainian war refugees, and the NBS itself will provide further assistance in the best and most effective ways it can.

Staff donations

Our staff donated a total of 20,115 to the humanitarian organisation People in Need to support its activities for Ukrainian refugees. The NBS has matched this amount, thereby bringing our overall donation to this organisation to €40,230.

Accommodation

Twenty-four beds at the Bank’s recreational accommodation in Kremnica are being made available to Ukrainian women refugees and their children. They will be able to stay there for as long as necessary.

Volunteering

NBS employees who wish to provide voluntary assistance will do so in coordination with the initiative #KtoPomôžeUkrajine? (#WhoWillHelpUkraine?). They will sort material donations (including clothing and blankets) and provide guidance and information to refugees at railway stations. They will also help refugees with administrative issues and, where asked, accompany them to the Aliens Police Department. They will work wherever they are needed, but in particular at the first contact points (such as the main railway station in Bratislava).

Storage capacity

The NBS has made storage facilities available to the initiative #KtoPomôžeUkrajine? (#WhoWillHelpUkraine?) for the storing of items donated to Ukrainian war refugees.

Armoured vehicles

At the request of the National Bank of Ukraine, the NBS will provide two bulletproof transport vehicles for the emergency evacuation of people from Ukrainian war zones through humanitarian corridors.
