Bilateral Borrowing Agreement between the SR and the IMF

The Slovak Republic (SR) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have signed a bilateral Agreement on the basis of which the SR shall provide a loan to the IMF up to the equivalent of EUR 440 million. The Agreement was signed by the Governor of the NBS Jozef Makúch on behalf of the SR, and by the Managing Director of the IMF Dominique Strauss-Kahn on behalf of the IMF. This bilateral Borrowing Agreement came into force on 12 February 2010.

The Agreement is a part of the European Union’s commitment declared in March 2009, to provide immediate support of IMF lending capacity in the amount of EUR 75 billion. In addition to the SR, the IMF has signed bilateral borrowing agreements and bilateral note purchase agreements with 14 other IMF members, or their central banks.

Proposal of the bilateral Borrowing Agreement between the SR and the IMF was approved by the SR Government by the Resolution No. 931 of 16 December 2009. The NBS will act as agent and contact person for the SR in relation to any issues concerning this bilateral Agreement with the IMF.
