Current information on withdrawal of the Slovak koruna from circulation

Národná banka Slovenska informs that as at 31 December 2008 there were SKK 77 billion in circulation, which was approximately 50 % of the value in circulation (SKK 155.15 bn) as at 31 December 2007.

The volume of cash withdrawn from circulation in the first eight days of the new year was more than SKK 11 billion, i.e. it represented more than 14 % of the value in circulation as at 31 December 2008.

The total volume of the cash withdrawn so far represents more than 67 % of the value in circulation as at 31 December 2007.

In this connection, Národná banka alerts the public to be cautious when receiving and exchanging money and advices to exchange Slovak koruna into euro banknotes and coins only in banks. Security features of euro banknotes can be found on the web sites: www.euromena.sk, www.nbs.sk, www.ecb.int.
