NBS Governor Peter Kažimír receives the GLOBSEC European Award

On Friday, 11 October 2019 NBS Governor Peter Kažimír received the GLOBSEC European Award for 2019.

He is one of two recipients of this year’s award from the Bratislava-based think-tank, the other being Donald Tusk, President of the European Council.

According to GLOBSEC representatives, Mr Kažimír was given the award for helping to mitigate the impact of the financial and economic crisis on the Slovak economy in his former role as Minister of Finance. His contribution to maintaining stability in the euro area and unity during the most critical moments of the debt crisis is appreciated at the European level.

The Governor said, “I am honoured to receive this award, which in the past has been given to people, friends, who have always had Europe close to their heart and done much for it. It is a nice feeling to be included in that club. The European Union is a unique project, and I firmly believe that if we want to be successful and prosperous, we must work together to modernise and reinforce this project. The strength of Europe lies in its very diversity, even though finding compromise can be difficult.”

Established in 2016, the GLOBSEC European Award is given to exceptional individuals who have contributed to prosperity, economic stability, growth, and inclusion. It symbolises the values on which European integration has been built over the decades. Among previous recipients of the award are the former German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, and OECD Secretary General José Ángel Gurría.
