Statement from the 11th Meeting of the Bank Board of the NBS

The 11th Meeting of the Bank Board of the National Bank of Slovakia was held on 13 March 2007, chaired by Ivan Sramko, Governor.

The Bank Board of the NBS approved the Decree of the NBS on banks´ own funds of financing and requirements for banks´ own funds of financing and on own funds of securities dealers´ financing and requirements for own funds of securities dealers´ financing.

The Decree takes over provisions of Directive 2006/48/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council relating to the taking up and pursuit of the business of credit institutions (recast) and Directive 2006/49/EC on the capital adequacy of investment firms and credit institutions (recast) into the legal order of the Slovak Republic. The forementioned fundamentally amend prudential banking rules being prepared in the current form on the basis of the Directive 2000/12/EC relating to the taking up and pursuit of the business of credit institutions and calculation of capital adequacy of banks and securities dealers amended by the Directive 93/6/EEC on the capital adequacy of investment firms and credit institutions.

The Decree amends requirements for banks´ own funds of financing and for own funds of securities dealers´ financing and details relating to rules on restricting large exposures of banks and securities dealers so that these requirements comply with real risks to which banks and securities dealers are exposed. The Decree will become effective on 30 March 2007.

The Bank Board of the NBS approved the Decree on the issue of commemorative silver coins in the nominal value of SKK 500, on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the completion of the Old Fortress in Komarno.
The commemorative coin is minted from an alloy containing 925 parts of silver and 75 parts of copper. The weight of the coin is 33,63g and its diameter is 40 mm. The designers of the coin are Karol Licko who is the designer of the observe side and Maria Poldaufova, designer of its reverse side. The Kremnica Mint, s.p. arranged the minting of 7 200 of the commemorative coins and they will be sold from the beginning of May 2007.
