Statement from the 2nd Meeting of the Bank Board of the NBS

The 2nd Meeting of the Bank Board of Národná banka Slovenska was held on 20 January 2009 chaired by Ivan Šramko, Governor.

The Bank Board of the NBS took note of the information regarding the retained counterfeits of banknotes in 2008 and in the beginning of 2009 and concluded that 501 pieces of the Slovak koruna and 258 pieces of the euro counterfeit banknotes were retained in the territory of the SR in 2008.

In 2009, up to 19 January 2009, 45 pieces of the Slovak koruna and 59 pieces of the euro counterfeit banknotes were retained. Regarding other 14 pieces of the retained euro banknotes, expert opinion confirmed their genuineness.

Even in spite of a low number of retained counterfeits of euro banknotes during the first days of 2009, the Bank Board of the NBS advises the public to be alert when receiving the cash and recommends to exchange the Slovak koruna to euro only in Banks. Traders and entities working with the cash can use equipment and technical means available for banknotes testing.
