Exchanging Slovak koruna banknotes and coins
I. General Information
We will exchange your Slovak koruna banknotes and commemorative coins for an unlimited period, free of charge, and at a fixed conversion rate of €1 = SKK 30.1260.
We do not exchange Slovak koruna circulation coins, since the exchange period for these coins ended on 2 January 2014 in accordance with Act 659/2007.
You can exchange your koruna banknotes and commemorative coins with us either
- in person – at the public counters of our headquarters or regional offices during the counter opening hours,
or
- by post – by sending the cash to our headquarters. We will either send you your money by post (only in Slovakia) or pay it into a bank account.
We generally do not exchange koruna banknotes and coins for euro collector coins or commemorative coins, or for banknotes or coins of a specific design, type or series, or for coins issued by a particular euro area country.
There is no limit on the number of banknotes and coins that you can present for exchange.
Before presenting banknotes and coins for exchange, you must sort them into their different denominations.
II. Exchange conditions and documents
- Exchanging banknotes and coins in person
Bring with you an original or certified copy of your photo identity document (national identity card, passport, or residence permit).
- Exchanging banknotes and coins by post
Please be advised that you send us banknotes and coins at your own risk. So please take appropriate measures to insure against loss or theft.
Send your cash to our headquarters, along with the following:
- a certified copy of your photo identity document (national identity card, passport, or residence permit);
- a completed cash exchange form (individual).
If you wish us to pay your money into a bank account, please include either of the following, not older than three months:
- the receiving bank’s original written confirmation that you are the account holder;
- a statement of the account which states your full name and address.
For payments to an account in Slovakia, please provide the name of the bank and the IBAN number of the account.
For payments to an account outside Slovakia, please fill out the form entitled “Mandatory data for reimbursement to foreign countries” and send it to us along with the cash you wish to exchange.
III. Relevant legislation
Národná banka Slovenska exchanges Slovak koruna banknotes and coins in accordance with the following legislative provisions:
- Sections 3, 4 and 6 of Act No 659/2007 on the introduction of the euro in the Slovak Republic (and amending certain laws);
- Sections 2 to 5 of Regulation No 465/2001 of Národná banka Slovenska laying down detailed provisions on the receiving and handling of legal tender and detailed provisions on the replacement of mutilated or otherwise damaged banknotes and coins, as amended by Regulation No 607/2008 of Národná banka Slovenska;
- Act No 297/2008 on the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing (and amending certain laws), as amended.
