Silver 200 Sk coin

National artist Janko Alexy (25.1.1894 Liptovsky Mikulas – 22.9.1970 Bratislava), painter, writer and publicist significantly influenced the development of modern Slovak painting, cultural and social life. He began his creative artistic work with socially motivated expressive work from the environment of the urban periphery. He developed genre painting in an original way in pictures inspired by ballads, folk songs and legends. Later his interests turned to landscape. He also devoted attention to stained glass and tapestries. Pastel was his most characteristic artistic technique. Alexy’s decorative genre pastels are a significant contribution to Slovak creative art. He also wrote various stories and novels and was active as a popular writer on art.
