SIPS
The SIPS payment system has been successfully operated by Národná banka Slovenska since 1 January 2003.
The introduction of the euro currency in Slovakia on 1 January 2009 affected the concept of interbank payment systems in the country. From that point, SIPS became a retail payment system for processing customer payments, while interbank payments were routed to the TARGET2 system.
SIPS is an ancillary system of TARGET2. Since 4 November 2013, SIPS has been connected to the STEP2 system and provides processing of SEPA payments for participants both in Slovakia and across the rest of the European Economic Area. Payment processing in SIPS is carried out in three clearing cycles, and the results of these cycles are settled in the TARGET2 system. The SIPS rules are laid down in Decision No 7/2012 of Národná banka Slovenska of 16 October 2012.
