Participants’ assets under the third pillar are managed by supplementary pension management companies through the third-pillar pension funds they operate.
Supplementary pension management companies (SPMCs) are joint stock companies incorporated in Slovakia which have been granted by Národná banka Slovenska an authorisation to establish and operate an SPMC and have as their scope of business the establishment and management of third-pillar pension funds. Participants’ contributions are collected in pension funds and from there they are invested to earn returns.
Each SPMC is required to establish and manage at least one contributory third-pillar pension fund and one distribution third-pillar pension fund.
