Crypto-Assets
The European Union has adopted crypto-asset regulations with the aim of creating a more transparent and larger crypto-asset market. These rules regulate the business of crypto-assets and set the conditions for the issuance of crypto-assets. The use of crypto-assets by consumers is not regulated. Consumers do not need any permission from National Bank of Slovakia to buy, sell or hold crypto-assets for private purposes.
The information on this page is intended primarily for entrepreneurs subject to European rules. More information on which entrepreneurs are subject to the rules and who are not can be found in this document.
National Bank of Slovakia supervises whether crypto-asset entrepreneurs and crypto-asset issuers comply with the above regulations. Supervision focuses mainly on entities licensed by National Bank of Slovakia. Until 30 December 2025, crypto-asset entrepreneurs who are not supervised by National bank of Slovbakia may also operate on our market.
Consumers can find information on how to safely use crypto-assets and recognize crypto-scams on this website in the Crypto School and Investing, Risks and Fraud sections.
Cryptoassets have innovative potential. National Bank of Slovakia supports responsible innovative entrepreneurship that balances opportunities with financial stability and consumer protection.
